Iceland rolls out nationwide ‘lucky dip’ discounting scheme with Olio
Iceland Foods is set to introduce Olio’s lucky dip scheme nationally across more than 950 Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores
The roll out, which commences tomorrow (7 October), makes the frozen foods specialist the first retailer to partner with Olio on an end-to-end food waste solution that covers discounting and redistribution.
The scheme was initially trialled in London and Manchester earlier this year, with each £2 lucky dip bag offering at least eight items, such as baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled meats or deli products.
Lucky dip bags are listed on the Olio app, where users reserve them before heading into the store during a set collection window to pick up their bag.
Any unsold or unclaimed bags are then collected by Olio volunteers and shared locally, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Iceland Foods director of product, process and sustainability Stuart Lendrum said: “Our Lucky dip bags have already proven a great way for families to save money without compromising on quality.
“By taking the scheme with Olio nationwide, we’re making sure every Iceland shopper can unlock fantastic value for just £2 a bag.
“This national rollout marks a huge step forward in our mission to cut food waste and help people save money, making Iceland the first retailer to offer a truly end-to-end solution from discounting to redistribution.”
The move builds on Iceland’s partnership with Olio and food waste app Gander in August, to launch a reductions feed.
Since 4 August, UK shoppers have been able to find real-time discounted yellow-sticker items in over 900 of the supermarket’s stores, due to app integrations with Olio and Gander.
