Sainsbury’s has become the first UK grocer to launch an own-brand skincare range carrying the MTick symbol, helping women shop confidently for menopause-friendly products.

The retailer’s new ‘the edit’ range, its biggest own-label skincare launch in years, features 17 affordable premium products, nine of which are MTick-certified.

The certification, developed by GenM, is the universal mark signposting products that address menopause-related needs such as changes in skin texture and elasticity.

Priced between £1.50 and £8.50, the cruelty-free and dermatologically tested collection is now available in-store and online, with POS support and features in GenM’s certified menopause-friendly “Beauty Plinth” in selected stores this October for World Menopause Awareness Month.

Sainsbury’s senior buyer for skincare Richard Welch said the launch was the “biggest own-brand launch in Skincare for a long time, backed by our 1,200 Beauty Experts.

GenM CEO and founder Heather Jackson added: “We are so proud to have Sainsbury’s as a member of the GenM collective, and now, with the edit becoming the first grocer-owned range to carry MTick-certified products, we couldn’t be more thrilled.

“With 48 signs of menopause, this critical stage can impact every aspect of a woman’s life – one of which is changes in the skin. Your skin is 75% collagen, and when this vital ingredient starts to disappear, your skin drastically changes. In fact, studies show that women’s skin loses about 30% of its collagen during the first five years of menopause. But nobody talks about it!

“Our research shows that 94% of women want to shop menopause-friendly labelled products, yet a staggering 66% can’t find what they’re looking for. Now, through the MTick, women can be clearly signposted to trusted skincare and beauty products that can make the experience of menopause better today than yesterday.

“It is small changes like these that can make a huge difference to a woman’s lived experience of menopause. United by the MTick, retailers like Sainsbury’s are transforming the shopping landscape; delivering choice, trust and visibility to empower women to search, source and shop for menopause-friendly products with confidence – driving the growth of a purposeful new retail category.”

The news follows both Tesco and Morrisons last year introducing new menopause-dedicated sections, signposting menopause-friendly products.
