Morrisons is slashing the prices of hundreds of everyday essentials as it aims to help households make their money go further before the busy autumn and Christmas period.

The grocery giant has reduced prices on roughly 650 products, with an average saving of 18%, with items including chicken breast fillets, rice, pasta, laundry pods, kitchen rolls, and cold-and-flu remedies.

The price cuts will run for four to eight weeks across stores and online.

Morrisons pricing and customer director Alex Paver said: “We know that the cost of everyday products really matter to our customers right now. That’s why we’re cutting the prices of over 650 items, from fresh favourites to cupboard staples, so our customers can trust they’re getting real value every time they shop with us.”

The discounts include various family meal staples, everyday basics, and seasonal items to help stock up for colder months, including soups and cold-and-flu tablets.

Selected promotional deals are also running, including Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc for £7.50, Kenco Coffee 200g for £6.50, and Tetley Original Teabags 400s for £6.50.

Morrisons is supporting the campaign with a national marketing push across TV, print, digital channels, and in-store signage to make it easy for shoppers to find the reduced goods.

The news comes after more than 30 Morrisons stores failed food hygiene inspections in August, with some sites receiving scores as low as zero.

Morrisons stores in Bristol and Chingford, East London received a zero rating within the past year, according to The Telegraph, while 10 of the supermarkets received a score of one on the latest inspections.
