Aldi once again UK’s cheapest supermarket
German retailer Aldi has regained its position as the UK’s cheapest supermarket, according to the latest monthly price analysis by Which?.
The August figures, which were released today (3 September), came after Lidl was the cheapest supermarket in July, beating Aldi for the first time in 20 months.
The consumer watchdog compared the cost of a standard basket of 75 branded and own-label groceries across eight major supermarkets.
Aldi’s basket came in at an average of £127.92, narrowly beating Lidl, which charged £128.35 without loyalty and £128.30 with its Lidl Plus app.
Among the traditional full-range grocers, Asda once again led the way on price. Its basket averaged £139.42, despite the retailer not offering loyalty discounts in the same way as rivals.
Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons all came in higher, although each offered cheaper totals when loyalty pricing was applied.

Aldi is my favourite supermarket food fresh and it is so cheap for good food
They might be cheap which is good. I bought potatoes in the Ayr branch on thrusday 4th sept. Was peeling them today and the most of them were black throughout
Had to go to my local village store to buy more potatoes for my dinner today
Poor show Aldi.
Aldi seems to offer a good combination of quality and value. You do have to be patient sometimes while waiting to park however.
