Asda is celebrating Yorkshire Day with a £12m investment to upgrade stores across its home county and surrounding areas.

The Leeds-based grocer will spend £7.2m modernising five core Yorkshire stores – Kingswood, Harrogate, York, Pudsey, and Keighley – with another £4.6m earmarked for Grimsby and Stockton.

Each site will receive a full shop floor refurbishment, including streamlined layouts, feature lighting, and neon signage, all designed to modernise and simplify the customer experience.

It is understood that work will begin this September and is expected to take around seven weeks per store, with no store closures planned during the process.

The move, which marks 60 years in its home region, follows a well-received £2m revamp of Asda’s Pilsworth store earlier this year and forms part of a wider focus on in-store improvements.

“We’re proud to continue investing in the communities we serve – especially in Yorkshire, where our story began 60 years ago,” said Asda chief commercial officer for retail and non-food Liz Evans.

“Following the successful refurbishment of our Pilsworth store earlier this year, we’re pleased to share our plans to modernise these Yorkshire stores and further enhance the shopping experience.””

The retailer plans to extend the refurbishment programme to more locations next year.
