Asda to retrain slowest staff as part of delivery drive
Asda is preparing to roll out performance-based training for its home shopping teams as it battles falling market share and seeks to improve delivery standards.
Under new plans, according to The Telegraph, the supermarket will identify its slowest pickers based on data including picking speed, substitution accuracy and error rates.
Up to 20% of colleagues could be selected at any given time for additional coaching, though Asda insists the programme is not tied to new performance targets.

“This proposal to introduce additional coaching to our home shopping colleagues will provide an opportunity for us to engage earlier with colleagues to understand any concerns that they may have or support that they require to help them excel in their roles and deliver outstanding service to our customers,” an Asda spokesperson said.
“This proposal would not introduce any additional targets for our colleagues and does not replace the performance improvement processes we already have in place.”
But the GMB union has warned the plans could lead to increased stress and “bullying by managers,” particularly among older or medically limited staff. It’s urging the supermarket chain to adopt a randomised training approach instead.
The retailer’s move comes amid a wider supermarket productivity push. Morrisons recently curbed stockroom access for “idling” floor staff, while Tesco banned headphone use last year.

Asda staff are unhappy , my relative says its now a horrible company to work for, staff morale is at an all time low. Home shoppers have to start at 4am then changed to 3am new trialing 5am , poor facilities in staffroom, microwaves to heat food taken away.
Were is this asda its the same in Scotland they took our juice crisps chocolate away no vending machine worst place to been
I used to be a home picker. MANY issues with the management, and the comment about bullying is spot on. There’s no pleasure in working for people like the Asda managers, who constantly shout and bully their staff. They need to concentrate on their health and safety issues. Health and safety in this group is abominable to say the least, and when it comes down to the home shoppers who have to push around trollies that are severely overloaded to the point that what they pick does NOT fit into their trollies, this means that they must push them around with at least half of their totes sticking out by at least half their lenth which is an issue when closed but an even bigger issue when open, BIG ISSUE. Sort out your bloody mess, Asda. I could go on and on with health and safety issues with Asda, with another issue being blocked fire doors. It’s no wonder they are stillgoing downhill.
It needs more than staff training. More often than not, most of the things I order are not in stock. Today I ordered £106 worth of shopping and ended up with only £44 worth. Why don’t they update the website when items are out of stock.
Dose this mean management that sit upstairs and sit in smoking areas and only come down for visits have to do this
Asda stated last year due the equal pay that’s going on at the moment. That they said it’s ok if you don’t finish your job role on time, and you are under no pressure to do so. And maybe the staff we have are so tired, because as you can see we are short staffed. I know 6 colleagues have left but not been replaced…
You are stupid not every manger just sit upstairs
That’s great I’m sick of not being able to get around asda because of great trucks in the way or pushed at you because idle people can’t be arsed to do the shopping, now asda want them do get in the way faster. GREAT.

Asda will probly be a thing of the past within the next 10 years, this is my perception, and the people that will kill Asda are the management team themselves.
Absolutely its them that are doing this from the best to work to the worst
Training starts at the begging and asda lost that when they stoped training coordinator role
Spot on, and they aren’t replacing colleagues that have left. And last year asda said, it’s ok if you don’t finish your job role and under no pressure to do so. Most staff are fed up because they have taken everything off us.
