Asda jobs on the line as it overhauls management roles
Asda has announced a significant overhaul of its store management structure as part of chairman Allan Leighton’s turnaround strategy to sharpen leadership and enhance day-to-day operations.
It is understood that section managers and trading managers will be combined into a new unified role, reporting directly to operations managers, The Grocer reported.
Several high-turnover stores will also see new operations managers appointed to provide closer support, said the supermarket giant.
Staff affected by the changes were notified on 9 July, though Asda stressed that Asda Express outlets will not be impacted.

While an undisclosed number of jobs will be lost, the supermarket also confirmed that around 20% of store management employees are being promoted and will receive pay increases.
Meanwhile, promoted section leaders will take on wider responsibilities, operating with clearer decision-making authority closer to the shop floor.
An Asda spokesperson said: “We’re focused on making Asda the UK’s best value full-service supermarket by providing customers with an outstanding experience every time they shop, and having the right store leadership structure in place is key to delivering this.
“The investment in this new structure brings decision-making closer to the shop floor, and our customers, by clarifying roles and providing clear accountabilities.
“It also creates more opportunities for colleagues to develop their careers and progress into store management roles, with a significant number of immediate promotions confirmed today. We will be offering our full support to other colleagues impacted by the changes.”

Doing the same as they did 4 years ago, the company is on its knees. I agree with other comments made no respect for managers at all. Don’t care at all and treat you like something they scraped of the bottom of their shoes. Such a shame it used to be a great company to work for.
The full support offered to colleagues affected is complete rubbish. Managers were marched out of stores and told all of their access to systems was removed with immediate effect. That is the full support that was provided. It is really frightening that a company like Asda can do this.
I agree with the above comment, managers with 20 years of service kick straight out the back door, no chance to say goodbye to colleagues. Asda are brutal, uncaring and don’t give a damn about colleagues. Stores have gone downhill, dirty floors, dirty shelves, lack of availability, it’s a sad sight compared to before Walmart took over. Things started to slide from then. And went into a complete avalanche when those idiot brothers took over and skimmed a heap of money out of the business to buy themselves a private jet each. Float it on the stock market so at least colleagues can make a little money from share!
