Asda announces £10m café revamp
Asda has announced plans to invest £10 million into revamping its in-store cafes, in partnership with Compass, as it aims to enhance its customer experience.
The supermarket giant will renovate and upgrade more than 180 of its cafes, with work expected to be complete by the end of October.
As part of the renovations, Asda plans to introduce digital ordering screens, a manned till and table service for customers.
The retailer also plans to expand its menu with new menu items such as smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls and wraps.
Additionally, Asda will offer sharing options such as nachos and loaded fries alongside previous dishes and expand its hot drinks menu.

It’s also diversifying its menu by offering Asda’s range of pizzas, with an option to buy a full 12-inch pizza or single slices.
Ian McEvans, Vice President of Commercial Food at Asda, commented: “Cafés are an important part of the shopping experience for many of our customers, and this significant investment alongside allows us to bring a new look and feel as well as make improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu.
“We have continued to demonstrate our commitment to our cafés over the years with popular deals like the Winter Warmer and Kids Eat for £1 meal deals, and this investment marks another exciting milestone moment for us on our journey and underpins our continued commitment to ensuring Asda is set up for long-term success at the heart of communities.”
Meanwhile, Asda also recently made a push towards its sustainability goals by investing £1.3 million in its electric vehicle fleet.

Asda’s investment into digital ordering tech, manned tills & table service may turn out to be a winner in satisfying today’s consumer demands. However, a word of advice for Asda regarding the “menu changes” and the perceived demand for more fanciful, upmarket offerings. Don’t do it. Your a supermarket, so keep the menu grounded.
Remember, give the public what they want, not what you think they want.
Good luck.
