Lidl hosts first farming conference as it backs British farmers
Lidl has launched its inaugural farming conference as it reinforces its commitment to British agriculture.
The two-day event saw the discounter bring together 130 British farmers, food producers, and industry leaders for its first Grassroots British Farming Conference, held at Harper Adams University.
The agenda covered expert-led discussions on agricultural policy, regenerative farming, livestock behaviour monitoring technology, and the mental health of farm workers, alongside hands-on demonstrations in key areas such as soil health and butchery.
The event also features an interactive panel session – Lidl in Dialogue – giving attendees the chance to speak with the grocer’s sustainability and commercial teams and industry stakeholders.

The conference follows previous initiatives launched by Lidl in a bid to champion British farming. In 2024, it pledged £1bn to the British egg industry, £1.5bn to British beef, £500m to British pork, and £70m to British root vegetables.
Meanwhile, the supermarket has invested in establishing long-term contracts and cost-of-production models, in a bid to create stability for suppliers.
Lidl chief commercial officer Richard Bourns said: “With two-thirds of our products sourced from British suppliers, we recognise the critical role agriculture plays in both our business and our customers’ shopping choices.
“Having strong family ties to farming myself, and over 15 years working closely with British suppliers at Lidl, I know first-hand the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. For nearly five years, our Grassroots Farming Groups have played a crucial role in developing long-term, sustainable partnerships.
He added: “Events like our Grassroots Conference allow us to foster open conversations, strengthen relationships, and ensure we continue growing together in the years ahead.”
