Premier Foods delivered a surge in sales in its third quarter, while its “strong” Christmas performance was boosted by its sweet treats division.

For the 13 weeks to 28 December 2024, group sales rose 3.1% versus the prior year, while third quarter branded sales were up 4.6% and grocery branded sales increased 3.5%.

Premier Foods chief executive Alex Whitehouse said its sweet treats business had a “particularly strong Christmas”, with branded sales up 8.9% as Mr Kipling sold 20% more mince pies in 2024, delivering its biggest ever quarter.

Last year, the British food manufacturer said it was seeing consumers beginning to trade up, a trend that also continued over Christmas, with its premium ranges such as Ambrosia Deluxe desserts, Bisto Best gravy and Mr Kipling Signature Brownie Bites “performing strongly”, according to Whitehouse.

Over the period, new categories sales skyrocketed 38%, which was led by “standout performers” Ambrosia porridge pots and Cape Herb & Spice.

Recently acquired brands The Spice Tailor and FUEL10K also both delivered double-digit sales growth.

Premier Foods now expects trading profit to be at the upper end of its full year expectations of £180.1m to £186.4m.

Whitehouse added: “As we look to the rest of FY24/25 and to the medium term, we expect to deliver further progress as we continue to execute against our five pillar growth strategy.”
