Aldi is expanding its London retail estate with the opening of nine new stores across the capital, as part of a new £55m investment in 2025.

The discounter has unveiled four locations due to launch a new Aldi store in the next 12 months, including Wimbledon, Fulham Broadway, Caterham and Orpington.

The new store openings follow the supermarket chain’s pledge to bring ‘unbeatable value’ to more Londoners, and form part of its £650m investment in the UK in 2025.

The investment also includes upgrading and renovating existing London branches, including its Colindale store.

The grocery retailer stated alongside its four new stores, it aims to open 100 other stores in London, creating 3,500 jobs, as part of its longer-term ambitions.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: “We strongly believe that everyone in Britain should have access to high quality food at our unbeatable prices. But we know that there are still thousands of shoppers in the capital that don’t yet have access to an Aldi nearby.

“We don’t think it’s fair that so many people still have to make do with big prices at other supermarkets, which is why London continues to be a real focus for us as we work to bring even more Aldi stores to shoppers across the capital.”

The news comes after the retailer posted its best Christmas trading period to date as sales topped £1.6bn in the four weeks to Christmas Eve.
