Tesco has asked its customers to rate its employees’ festive cheer with a new online Christmas survey as the supermarket giant ramps-up preparations for the big day.

One shopper took to social media platform X (formally known as Twitter) posting an image of the questionnaire they were emailed in November, which asked: “How much festive spirit did you find staff had in store?”.

The X user said: “Filled in a survey about Tesco Old Kent Road – feel sorry for the staff being measured on their ‘festive spirit’ and it’s still November,” while another stated: “Festive spirit should come naturally and not be forced.”

The feedback form, which also asked store-goers to rate how festive the store looked and felt, comes after the UK’s largest supermarket has asked its shoppers to rate its staff for years, as part of its wider review of its Christmas season.

It also comes as Tesco has ramped up its preparations for Christmas in recent months. In October the grocer increased its Christmas deliveries with thousands of additional slots in the fortnight leading up to the big day to help customer plan ahead.

Earlier this week, the retailer also launched a new festive advent calendar initiative, Christmas Countdown, offering Clubcard users promotions and discounts for completing spending ‘challenges’.

The initiative comes after Tesco gave Clubcard members the chance to win their Christmas shop last year, in a bid to help customers with the cost-of-living crisis.

Tesco has been contacted for comment.
