Former Iceland exec ditches Asda for new Morrisons role
Morrisons has appointed former Iceland executive Andrew Staniland as its new group trading director, wooing him away from his move to Asda.
Staniland is set to join the business from February 2025, following a 4 year stint at rival grocer Iceland where he acted as trading director, then group trading director.
In July, it was understood Staniland was to replace Asda veteran and former commercial director Paul Gillow, amid a slew of senior departures from retail veterans at the grocery retailer, however it is unclear whether the move ever took place.
The new executive also has previous experience at other grocers including Waitrose and Aldi, however his latest move marks a return to the supermarket chain after a four year stint as a buyer and buying manager at Morrisons from 2012 to 2016.

Morrisons CEO Rami Baitiéh said: “Andrew is an exceptional talent and I am very pleased to welcome him to Morrisons as the strengthening of our senior team continues.
“Andrew has a very strong record from his recent senior roles at Iceland and Aldi has also worked at Morrisons before in a number of buying roles so he knows us well.
Alongside Staniland’s appointment, group commercial director James Badger will move to a new role as group strategy and transformation director.
Baitiéh added: “I want to thank James Badger for the great contribution he has made in his latest role and I know that he will continue to make a real difference in his new role.”
