Tesco to hike meal deal price after quality ‘improvements’

Tesco is to increase the price of its meal deal as the supermarket has made “recent improvements” to the quality of the lunchtime offer.

The price of a meal deal with a Clubcard will increase from £3.40 to £3.60, while the price without a Clubcard will rise from £3.90 to £4 from 22 August.

A Tesco spokesperson told Grocery Gazette that despite the price rise, its meal deal “remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on-the-go”.

“With millions of possible combinations across our stores, our recent improvements to ingredients and more than 20 new mains introduced this summer, the Tesco meal deal has got something for every taste,” they added.

It is the first time the grocer has raised its meal deal price since October 2022, and comes as more than 80% of customers now use a Clubcard to buy the lunchtime offer.

Tesco has been revamping its meal deal offer of late. Last February, it launched a premium meal deal that includes brands such as Itsu, Yo! Sushi, Pollen and Grace, and items from the Tesco Finest range at £5 for Clubcard users or £5.50 without.

It also introduced ice creams such as Magnum to the deal last month as the ‘snack’ option during the summer.
