Some Sainsbury’s stores experienced chaos this week after a faulty coupon allowed customers to get huge discounts on their grocery bill.
The discount voucher was available in the Sainsbury’s app on Monday (22 July) but could be used repeatedly and saw customers quickly filling up their trolleys and attempting to checkout before the coupon was removed, Mail Online reported.
Videos posted to social media saw one customer in Gants Hill, East London arguing with an employee who tried to deny him from using the voucher.
A glitched Sainsbury’s coupon was released on the app yesterday where it allowed customers to get all their items for free.
Those who found it before Sainsbury’s did, made sure to take the piss 🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/6GP58SAXqg

According to the Mirror, aTikTok user shared that “by 10pm I’m back in the house with £441 worth of shopping for £6” alongside an image of groceries, including pizzas, toilet rolls, milk and fruit juice.
In the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds, one shopper also documented a line of countless trollies packed high of food and luxury items. However, it is not clear if these were confiscated before or after the glitch was found.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We have seen an increase in fraudulent coupons in our stores and we have processes in place to detect and block them.
“We also have in-store detectives monitoring for fraudulent attempts and we are working closely with the police on this issue. We continue to accept genuine coupons and vouchers.”
