Heinz vegan salad cream discontinued following range review
Heinz has discontinued its vegan salad cream following a range review “with consumer wants and needs in mind”.
The FMCG giant confirmed the product, which was first introduced in 2021, had been “recently discontinued” via X, in response to a shopper who said they were unable to find it in-store.
A Heinz spokesperson told The Grocer: “We’re constantly looking at how we can improve and innovate to meet changing culinary trends and tastes, and this sometimes means reviewing our range with consumer wants and needs in mind.”

The vegan salad cream was initially rolled out alongside other plant-based alternatives in a bid to tap into the growing market.
While plant-based food has been a big growth category in recent years, data from NIQ last year found that the cost-of-living crisis may have hindered this trajectory as 73% of vegan shoppers were found to be actively trying to make savings on their grocery bills.
However, Heinz plant-based items still available in UK supermarkets include its vegan tomato soup, Baked Beanz and vegan sausages, and vegan mayo.
The news of Heinz’s discontinued vegan salad cream comes despite rival condiment brand Hellmann’s celebrating the success of its plant-based products.
Senior science and programme leader Krassimir Velikov said last month that Hellmann’s plant-based products have “enjoyed growth for the last four years, and this looks set to continue with the market predicted to double by 2030″.
At the time, Hellmann’s redesigned and reformulated its vegan mayo in a bid to tackle food waste prevention and appeal to flexitarians.

Tescos own Free From salad cream is just as nice and even with its 85% price hike, it’s still far cheaper than the Heinz version.
I loved the vegan salad cream. The best on the market. It was worth the price. So disappointed I can’t buy it now.
It was too expensive. Never tried it because they wouldn’t give out further allergy advice details.
Heinz Vegan Salad Cream was worth the price to me.
Tesco Free From salad cream is full of sugar and glucose syrup. It tastes totally bland with not enough vinegar taste.

Soooooo disappointed they’ve discontinued this. With the exception of Tescos own This was the only nice one out there. Tescos own is the only other half decent one, but I don’t normally shop there.
