Co-op and Uber Direct launch quick commerce partnership

The Co-op and Uber Direct have launched a new quick commerce partnership trial in a bid to bolster the retailer’s share of the quick commerce market.

The new joint venture will see shoppers order groceries on the convenience store’s website, through its app, which will use the Uber Eats delivery network.

The new arrangement is initially due to roll out to 50 Co-op stores with hopes to ramp up access to around 1,000 by the end of the year.

Co-op also said it aims for this collaboration, which will sit alongside other partnerships with Uber Eats, to boost the retailer’s share of the quick commerce market to over 30%.

Co-op e-commerce director Chris Conway said: “We have ambitious goals for the continued growth of our e-commerce business, and know that our member-owners and customers value the ease and convenience of quick and convenient online home delivery.

“Innovation and effective partnerships are a fundamental part of our approach as we grow the reach of both our own online shop and our work with strategic partners, offering our member-owners and customers in more communities an extensive range of groceries on demand from Co-op’s stores locally.”

Uber Direct head Caroline Varga said: “We’re proud to work with Co-op to build on its relationship with Uber and support its work to grow its online delivery service to its member-owners and customers.

“Our shared focus on speed, reliability and convenience supports Co-op’s growth ambitions to offer food and drink on demand from more of its stores via its own website or app.”

Last month, the convenience retailer launched in-app member pricing for shoppers using the Uber Eats app, marking a first for UK supermarkets.
