Tesco rolls out unit pricing to make Clubcard Prices clearer

Tesco will be adding unit pricing across its Clubcard products in the coming weeks to make prices clearer to customers.

Unit pricing reflects how much an items costs using weight or volume which can help shoppers to better compare the value they’re receiving.

The supermarket giant will now display Clubcard Prices to show the unit price of the product (by volume or weight), as well as the total price, allowing a direct comparison of price per unit between Clubcard prices and alternative products.

Tesco UK CEO Jason Tarry said in a recent blog post that the change is something the grocer has been “planning to do for some time.”

He added that it will also be adding unit prices to Clubcard Prices deals online.

It comes after Tesco, among other UK supermarkets, was critisized by consumer watchdog Which? for not showing the unit pricing on products with Clubcard Prices, and only on the standard price of items.

Tarry said: “We know Tesco shoppers will still be looking closely at the products available in their local store or during their online shop to ensure they are getting great value – whether that is on own-brand lines or well-known brands on Clubcard Prices promotions.

“We announced last year that we would introduce unit pricing for simple promotions to show their value by weight or volume – something that will make it even easier for customers to understand how competitive our Clubcard Prices offer are.”
