The Co-op has debuted a carbon reduction scheme that financially rewards its beef supply chain farmers for sustainable farming practices.
In partnership with its supplier Dunbia, the two-year new ‘Beef Sustainability Pilot is designed to aid Co-op’s aims to decarbonise its supply chains.
Farmers in the pilot group currently represent roughly 10% of Co-op’s Beef supply chain and will be supported by bespoke sustainability resources. They will be able to gain emission reduction achievement-linked rewards throughout the programme.

The pilot will also help the convenience retailer provide more precise emissions data as it focuses on its long-term target of net zero by 2040.
Co-op agriculture manager Joseph Keating said: “Recognising and rewarding farmers who are leading the way and making positive changes to reduce their carbon footprint is important in developing a more resilient and sustainable agriculture industry, so we’re thrilled to announce our new Beef Sustainability Pilot at Co-op alongside Dunbia.
