Morrisons to introduce flexible working hours at HQ

Morrisons is introducing new flexible working hours at its Bradford head office, moving to a four-and-a-half-day week.

Under the new proposals, staff will continue to work 37.5 hours, however this will be across a four-and-a-half-day week, with Saturday working no longer required, The Grocer reported.

This changes are set to come into play next month, with around 2,000 staff to be affected.

In 2020, Morrisons introduced four-day working weeks, which required staff to work 13 Saturdays across the year, however it is understood that this had not been favoured among head office workers.

Last year, Tesco became the first major UK supermarket to grant staff new flexible working rights almost a year ahead of an expected change in the law this year.

More than 300,000 workers were given the right to request flexible working patterns from their first day in the job, rather having to wait 6 months.

Sainsbury’s also said that it was investigating flexible working as it looks to ‘evolve’ and, testing “new ways to be more efficient and offer improved flexibility”.

Earler this month, Asda owners the Issa brothers began trialling a four-day week, alongside other flexible working arrangements, such as shorter shifts.
