Sainsbury’s will release its annual Nectar card shopping round-up ‘Check you out’ tomorrow, revealing shoppers’ top purchases of 2023.

The personalised feature, available to view in the Nectar app for a week from 10 January, gives customers the chance to view a breakdown of their shopping habits throughout the year.

‘Check you out’ will show the top three products they bought the most, and will let them find out if they are the number one buyer of a particular product in their local store or area.

Data revealed by the supermarket so far shows individual impressive shopping feats, such as one customer purchasing 698 Caramac bars in 2023, despite the confectionery product eventually being discontinued later in the year.

Other standout purchases include one Sainsbury’s shopper buying almost 2,400 packets of Angel Delight and a Marmite fan buying 1,080 jars.

Returning for a fourth year, the supermarket’s initiative will also be accompanied by a customer competition giveaway of 10 million points by Nectar across social media platforms, worth £50,000.

To qualify for the giveaway, Sainsbury’s has asked customers to take to social media to comment on the posts and share what their own top buys of 2023 were.

Sainsbury’s director of loyalty and customer relationship management Alex Naisby said: “Nectar’s ‘Check you out’ campaign never fails to bring some fun and excitement to the start of the year. We’re always surprised by the top buyers – whether we discover a true fan of Spam, someone that has gone wild for garlic, or Britain’s biggest tea drinker – something new and interesting always crops up.

“This year we’re going bigger than ever as we’re giving away 1 million Nectar points to 10 lucky winners. We love hearing what our customers are buying, so get involved by sharing your top three buys on our socials for a chance to win.”
