Nestlé is discontinuing Caramac and Animal Bars after more than 60 years since the it first hit the shelves in the UK.
Originally created by the confectionery firm Mackintosh, known for its Quality Street and Rolo brands, Caramac was first launched in 1959.
The bars, which despite sharing the shelves with chocolate bars, do not contain any cocoa were shortly followed by Animal Bars, rolled out in 1963.
Yet after buying the brand in 1998, Nestlé has now decided to pull the products altogether, following the sales of both ‘steadily declining’ over recent years.

“We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Caramac,” said the multinational food and drink processing company Nestle in a statement.
“There has been a steady decline in its sales over the past few years and unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.
“We know fans will be disappointed to see it go, but this change will enable us to focus on our best-performing brands, as well as develop exciting new innovations to delight consumers’ tastebuds.”
Earlier this year, rival confectionary firm Mars Wrigley announced it would be ‘temporarily’ delisting its dark chocolate Bounty product, in a move that caused backlash from fans on social media.
