As Christmas is just around the corner, supermarkets have been supporting shoppers across the UK with price cuts, price locks, festive promotions and discounts.
With the big day once again coinciding with the cost-of-living crisis, many of the UK’s leading supermarkets are also offering colleagues additional benefits to make Christmas more affordable.
We take a look at how supermarkets including Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and M&S are supporting colleagues this December.
Tesco’s colleague discount
This Christmas, Tesco is doubling its colleague discount over the festive period with employees receiving 20% off their grocery shopping.
This will run in-store and online from Wednesday 13 to Tuesday 19 December.
Sainsbury’s discounts and free food
Sainsbury’s has increased its 10% colleague discount offer to 15% every Friday and Saturday, and is offering 15% off at Argos every payday Friday.
Temporary seasonal colleagues will also receive a second discount card for a family member or friend at the same address and be offered free food during shifts over the festive season.
Lidl’s Christmas discount
Like Sainsbury’s, Lidl is increasing its colleague store discount from 10% to 15% in the run up to the Christmas.
Colleagues also have access to the grocer’s Employee Discount Hub which offers savings on a range of products and services across a selection of online and high street retailers.
Aldi’s updated store hours
Aldi is rewarding its colleagues this Christmas period by keeping all UK stores closed on Boxing Day.
The discount grocer said the move is a “way to say thank you for their continued hard work” throughout the year.
Morrisons seasonal colleague discounts
This year, seasonal colleagues at Morrisons will benefit from a 15% staff discount card.
In addition to this, temporary staff will receive a 10% discount card to gift to a friend or family member.
Waitrose’s exclusive Partner savings
Waitrose is offering seasonal and exclusive discounts to all employees this December.
These savings can be accessed via the upmarket retailer’s dedicated wellbeing website for employees, Partner Choice.
The upmarket retailer is also closing its stores on Boxing Day for workers to have a day off.
M&S’ seasonal discount
At M&S, both permanent and seasonal colleagues are offered a range of benefits including a 20% discount from the day they start.
Iceland’s discounts and store closures
From 22 to 27 November, Iceland increased its staff discount to 20%, which executive chairman Richard Walker described as a “thank you for all your hard work in the run up to Christmas.”
The frozen food retailer will also be closing all of its stores on Boxing Day to ensure employees have more time to spend with friends and families over the festive period.
