M&S launches recruitment drive to fill 10,000 Christmas roles

M&S is recruiting 10,000 new customer assistants to provide support in its stores over the busy Christmas period.

The number of vacancies is more than a 40% increase on last year as the upmarket retailer looks to provide customers with futher assistance in the next few months across both food, and clothing and home sections.

The roles will involve engaging with shoppers and serving customers on the shop floor and at service points, ensuring shelves and railes are stocked.

Colleagues will also help to deliver M&S’ Christmas Food to Order service in stores.

New customer assistants will join the retailer from 19 November, with a range of start dates, roles and flexible working patterns available.

Colleagues will also be given a range of benefits, including a 20% discount from the day they start.

The roles can be applied for via M&S’ dedicated Christmas careers page on its website.

M&S operations director, Sacha Berendji, said: “Our fantastic store colleagues play such a big part in delivering the magic of M&S at Christmas to our customers and this year we’re recruiting even more colleagues to ensure there’s always someone on hand to offer support and recommendations.

“The Christmas period is a busy but exciting time for M&S and no two days are the same – in fact, many colleagues started their M&S careers at Christmas and have since gone onto progress across the business.

“With a range of roles and flexible working patterns available, anyone who is interested in being part of something special this Christmas should visit our careers website to apply.”

M&S is the latest retailer to announce its festive recruitment drive as Tesco is looking for 30,000 temporary colleagues across the UK, and Sainsbury’s is creating 22,000 additional seasonal roles nationwide.

Morrisons is also looking to recruit an additional 3,500 workers over the Christmas period and Aldi is looking to recruit 3,000 new store workers for both temporary and permanent positions.
