FMCGNews

Meat-free brand VFC has agreed to acquire plant-based pie, quiche and nut roast manufacturer, Clive’s Purely Plants.

The move marks a substantial expansion for VFC and promises to increase the group’s annual sales by 30%.

Clive’s Purely Plants is present in major retailers including Waitrose, Ocado and Asda, with a further listing at a supermarket from December, which is yet to be announced.

In addition to the brand, the acquisition includes Clive’s Dartmouth production facility, marking VFC’s first push into primary manufacturing.

This comes as the second brand acquisition in less than four months, following the purchase of Meatless Farm in June.

Group CEO, Dave Sparrow, said: “The acquisition of Clive’s, following the successful addition of Meatless Farm, positions VFC Foods as a formidable player in the market. With three strong brands experiencing substantial growth, we are well-positioned to further penetrate the retail and food service sectors in the UK and Europe.”

VFC said Clive’s premium vegetable-led product portfolio compliments its existing portfolio, aligning with the company’s mission of removing animals from the food chain.

“Reducing meat consumption is crucial for a healthier and more sustainable future, and consumers are increasingly seeking varied options in the plant-based aisle, including high-quality vegetable-based products. Clive’s perfectly complements our portfolio and enhances our ability to meet this growing demand,” Sparrow added.

Clive’s Purely Plants managing director, Esther Pearson, said: “We are thrilled to have found a like-minded partner in VFC Foods to support us through this period of accelerated growth. We are committed to maintaining business as usual with all existing customers and ensuring that we uphold our high standards of customer service.”

Clive’s will operate as a subsidiary of VFC Foods with full support from its existing team, while Pearson will continue to remain a shareholder.
