Asda targets M&S in Taste Match campaign to promote product quality

Asda has launched its M&S Taste Match to promote its product quality credentials, with the slogan “M&S taste at Asda price”.

The big 4 grocer claims that hundreds of its products were voted “as tasty” or “tastier than” their M&S equivalents but at a lower cost, following thousands of blind taste tests.

Asda first launched its Taste Test initiative in July, when it nominated a series of products for blind taste testing against luxury retailers including Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Harvey Nichols.

Asda said standout products from the M&S Taste Match included its Extra Special British Aberdeen Angus Ribeye Steak, Extra Special Lemon Drizzle Cake and Extra Special Madagascan Tiger Prawns.

The news comes as the grocery giant has teamed up with Sky’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks to launch a new campaign aimed at highlighting the quality of its food.

The retailer said that all of the products in its Taste Match were better value than the same food products at M&S, noting its rival’s “long-standing reputation for great quality food”.

Asda has recently slashed prices on more than 400 of its branded and own-label products as its latest income tracker found that budgets remain under pressure from rising living costs.
