Sainsbury’s upcoming Christmas advert is set to feature a big-name 80s pop star as the supermarket giant ramps up its festive marketing campaign.
According to The Sun, Rick Astley will star in scenes for the grocer’s 2023 Christmas advert, having started filming at one of Sainsbury’s stores in Bromley, South East London last week.
A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman told the publication: “We’re never gonna give up the secrets of our Christmas ad this early.”

Last year, Sainsbury’s Christmas campaign starred Alison Hammond and was narrated by Stephen Fry.
The advert looked to showcase the innovation of its Taste the Difference range by depicting a young chef’s quest to reimagine one of the most divisive festive foods – the traditional Christmas pudding.
Rival supermarket Asda surprised viewers last year as actor and comedian, Will Ferrell, appeared to be in its Christmas ad dressed as his ‘Elf’ character Buddy.
However, the grocer used original footage and iconic lines from the Christmas film by merging classic film footage with newly filmed scenes.
This comes as many of the UK’s leading supermarkets have showcased their upcoming festive food and drink ranges, with vegan offerings, social media-inspired graze boards, reimagined centrepieces, and low alcohol beverages high on their agendas this year.
