Strikes have been called off at the UK’s largest sandwich maker which supplies supermarkets including Tesco, Co-op, Sainsbury’s and M&S.
Earlier this month, more than 500 workers at Greencore voted to strike over “poverty levels of pay”, demanding an increase to their £10.53-an-hour pay.
As the strike was originally planned to last almost a month, it brought concerns that popular items including sandwiches and wraps would be missing from the shelves of many of the UK’s leading supermarkets.
This also came as Greencore found that over half (52%) of sandwiches sold by supermarkets are now part of a meal deal combo.

However, Unite union suspended the strikes last night (12 September) as Greencore made a new offer, The Mail Online reported.
Unite regional officer, Andy Shaw, told the publication: “Greencore has finally come back to the negotiating table after the threat of strike action by our members.
“As a goodwill gesture, we have called off industrial action while we put this new offer to our members.”
Last month, Waitrose launched its first £5 lunchtime meal deal which includes a main, side and a drink across a range of products such as sandwiches, sushi, salad, wraps, fruit, cereal bars, juices and smoothies.
