Waitrose customers had their online orders cancelled due to a technical problem, minutes before they were scheduled to arrive on their doorstep.
According to The Telegraph, the exact number of orders affected is not known but many of the supermarket’s shoppers complained on social media this week that their orders had been cancelled at short notice.
The supermarket noted that a “large volume” of orders had been impacted.
Thank you – the email has arrived
No explanation and no apology.

The fault comes just months after an IT glitch left many of its stores with empty shelves, yet the grocer told customers on X (Twitter) that the issues “are in no way connected”.
Abysmal service as often as it is now @waitrose – when your order is between 7am-8am – because you won’t leave it any other time during the day with your 17.5year old (she might attack her brother with a baguette perhaps – and now yet again tech issues…. pic.twitter.com/rYqaSwM0yO

A Waitrose spokesman said the glitch had since been resolved: “We’re very sorry that some customer orders were impacted following a technical issue. We’ve apologised to affected customers, and will be offering them a goodwill gesture.”
It comes after Waitrose has cut prices in an effort to compete with rival discounters such as Aldi and Lidl, who have seen rising market share as shoppers look for cheaper prices amid the cost-of-living crisis.
The supermarket said in February it would invest £100m into price cuts, with nearly a quarter of prices being lowered by as much as 20%.

Waitrose, a faithful customer since 1973
Just ordered last order. Four items missing. I haven’t had a full order for over a year.
Ocado, so far, 18 months , no missing items.
Enough is enough!
Could bribe Charlie Mayfield and Andy Street back??!!
Ms White is not a retailer, just a bean counter.
Shame.
That’s why it’s best to do your grocery shopping in person. As supermarkets can cancel your order on a whim. Also going in person. As you got what you want. Not what the supermarket thinks you want or the member of staff. and no substitutions .
