One Stop has partnered with Swedish food tech company, Whywaste, to reduce food waste across its stores.
The SaaS solution allows retailers to receive precise product expiration data with smart markdown recommendations, ensuring that soon-to-expire products are sold and not wasted.
The convenience retailer started using Whywaste’s technology in 2022 in four stores which resulted in an average 14.3% waste reduction in fresh and ambient areas.
However, One Stop will now implement the solution across its portfolio of 1,000 stores to support its ambition to reach net zero by 2050.

One Stop head of supply chain, Richard Turton, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Whywaste – we’re committed to reducing food waste and our environmental impact as much as we can, where we can.
“The Whywaste software will enable us to discount products which are close to their sell by date at fair prices, giving our customers another great way to save money when they visit our stores.”
Whywaste head of business development, Ben Holden, added: “It is always wonderful to see that retailers are embracing the idea that sustainability is an important part of their business.”
Last year, Whywaste collaborated with Asda and Spar to roll out the digital date checking technology.
Results from Spar stores that has already been using the solution found that they had been able to reduce their food waste by up to 40%.
