Tesco stores to stop selling video games in coming weeks

Tesco will no longer be selling physical video games in stores as its shoppers move towards digital entertainment.

Games will only be featured in the grocery giant’s stores until the current stock runs out.

However, video games will still be available digitally via e-gift cards, which can be purchased in stores and will provide customers with an activation code that can be spent on in-game purchases.

Last year, Tesco began to phase out its in-store entertainment range, including video games, as well as CDs and DVDs.

At the time, it said the move came as shoppers moved towards digital entertainment, and as it looked to focus on ranges “where we see the highest demand from customers such as homeware and outdoor products”.

Other retailers have also moved away from physical in-store media, with Sainsbury’s stepping away from selling CDs and DVDs in July 2021.
