Tesco sustainability director, Anna Turrell, has stepped down after three years at the supermarket giant.
Turrell first joined Tesco in 2020 as group head of environment before officially being appointed head of sustainability in February of this year.
During her time at the leading retailer, Tesco expanded its Net Zero commitment, helped to launch the UK Soy Manifesto, rolled out its first green bonds and invested £5m in the Brazilian soy supply chain.
Turrell also oversaw the supermarket remove two billion pieces of plastic, enable the launch of the WWF Retailer Commitment for Nature and bring forward its food waste target, among other initiatives.

Posting of her departure on LinkedIn, Turrell said that Tesco was able to achieve this due to the “incredible people” she worked alongside.
“Their passion, commitment, energy and humanity are the reasons we’ve made such amazing progress and will continue to do so into the future. I want to use this moment to profoundly thank everyone of these individuals and organisations. You are so important.”
Prior to joining Tesco, Turrell was head of sustainability at Nestle, where she served in the role for almost five years.
She added: “I joined Tesco because I am passionate about the food industry and driving positive change.
“Coming from Nestlé, I wanted to experience another vital part of the food value chain to better understand how we can drive systemic change and retail was the obvious choice. It didn’t disappoint.”
