Aldi ends click-and-collect service in 12 stores

Aldi has axed its click-and-collect service from 12 stores due to “insufficient demand” from shoppers.

The offering, which first launched in 2020 and allows customers to order products online and collect them in store, has since rolled out to over 200 of the discount grocer’s 990 UK supermarkets.

However, the service has since been “paused” at several sites, Which? reported.

Stores in Aylesbury, Brighton, Burton on trent, Coventry, Crawley, Chelmsford, Gillingham, Kidbrooke, Kidderminster, Maidstone, Oldbury and Reading have all been affected by the change.

An Aldi spokesperson told Which? that despite the lack of demand, “footfall and sales continue to grow rapidly” in the regions where the 12 stores are located.

The retailer has not yet revealed plans to end the service at any further sites.

The move comes despite CEO Giles Hurley having claimed in December 2022 that Aldi had “big plans” to extend its click-and-collect initiative this year.

A month later, Aldi unveiled plans to stop home delivery of ‘Specialbuys’, wine and spirits to work on keeping prices low and extending its grocery click-and-collect offering.

While wine and spirits delivery, which first launched in 2015, was stopped in January, Specialbuys can still be purchased online until autumn.
