Iceland launch half-term money-saving initiative as parents struggle with mealtimes

Iceland has launched a new money-saving initiative, named Half Term Heroes, for parents who are feeling a squeeze on their finances this half term (May 29th – June 2nd).

According to research from the frozen goods retailer, one in two parents (51%) surveyed admit to feeling concerned about their kids eating well during the week break, and over half (56%) are more concerned about the cost of mealtimes than last year.

Accepted in all Iceland and Food Warehouse stores, the offer is available from 26 May until 4 June – where for every £15 school meal voucher shoppers spend with Iceland they’ll receive £2 added to their Bonus Card.

In terms of discounts, Iceland is running a deal on three nutritious items for £5, £2 value items and three for £4 range – saving up to £6.20.

Second to the financial pressures of half term is the nutritional concerns that parents face, with one in two (50%) concerned about their kids eating well.

Around 57% of parents also worry about the cost of having their kids at home, with 53% worrying about their children getting their five a day.

Two thirds (66%) are also concerned about the cost of paying for fun activities during the break.

As a result, shoppers who spend £25 in-store or £40 online can get a free Kids Pass for three months which provides over 1000+ discounts on zoos, theme parks, cinemas restaurants and more.

It comes as Iceland has partnered with Myprotein in a first of its kind competition, in which it is giving shoppers the chance to win a year’s supply of frozen meals if they are able to lift the lid of its ‘heaviest freezer’.

“We know how tough it can be for parents when half term comes around,” group buying director at Iceland Foods & The Food Warehouse, Andrew Staniland said.

“Iceland has taken action to launch the three money saving initiatives which include a free Kids Pass for over 1,000 half term activities, a £2 boost to their bonus card when they spend £15 of school meal vouchers, and savings on food fit for the whole family in its 3 for £5 deals and more.”
