Iceland and Myprotein trial new frozen meal vending machines

Iceland and Myprotein are trialling new frozen vending machines, with the first being introduced at the Fitness First gym in Wigan from today.

Each vending machine will be stocked with 10 different meals, and has been designed with gym-goers in mind as each meal has 20-30g of protein or more.

If the trial is successful, the frozen goods retailer and sports nutrition brand plan to roll out more machines in other gyms nationwide.

From £5.00 – £5.50 per meal, the machines will include pulled pork mac and cheese, chicken tikka, katsu chicken and beef lasagne, among others.

Back in March, family-run ethical business, Cook, launched its first-to-market fully automated frozen ready-meals vending machines.

It comes as Iceland partnered with Myprotein in a first of its kind competition, in which it is giving shoppers the chance to win a year’s supply of frozen meals if they are able to lift the lid of its ‘heaviest freezer’.

Iceland Foods group buying director Andrew Staniland said: “Iceland is proud to expand its existing brand partnership with Myprotein, and work together with Fitness First, to bring people quick, easy and nutritious protein-packed meals that support them in living a healthy lifestyle.

“When we came up with the idea, we just knew we had to trial it. We can’t wait to see the machines rolled out across many more Fitness First locations very soon.”

A spokesperson from Fitness First commented: “We are thrilled to announce our exciting collaboration with Myprotein & Iceland. This unique partnership will provide our members with convenient access to both fitness facilities and nutritious meals, supporting their busy lifestyles and fitness journey.”
