Wincanton signs 10-year warehouse deal with Tata Chemicals and British Salt

Leading supply chain partner for UK business, Wincanton has signed a 10-year warehousing and logistics contract with Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE), owners of British Salt.

The long-term partnership confirms Wincanton’s role in supporting TCE’s growth plans, which includes a UK-first from British Salt Limited – TCE’s high purity salt manufacturing business.

The leading supply chain partner will manage the pharmaceutical company’s new state-of-the-art 185,000 sq ft warehouse at British Salt’s site in Middlewich, Cheshire – which is set for completion this summer.

By implementing its technology solutions, Wincanton claims it will deliver sustainable value for TCE by managing packed its product distribution services. As a result, Manhattan, a world-leading leading warehouse management system, will be deployed to enhance visibility and stock control.

In March, Waitrose extended its relationship with Wincanton building on 25 years of collaboration between the two companies.

The warehouse will be accredited to the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) and the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) standards.

From next year, British Salt will become the UK’s first producer of pharmaceutical grade salt, which will be used for a range of medications such as oral rehydration salts.

TCE’s packed salt and sodium bicarbonate pharmaceutical products will be housed in the cutting-edge new facility.
