Asda is offering hourly paid store colleagues, who are scheduled to work on bank holiday Monday (8 May), the option to request a paid day off.
Those who choose to do so will participate in the ‘Big Help Out’, a national holiday of volunteering to mark the coronation of King Charles III.
To further support the initiative, over 380 Asda Community Champions across the UK will help bring communities together by arranging litter picks in places such as parks, community centres, beaches and canals.
Colleagues at the Big 4 grocer who choose to take part in the ‘Big Help Out’ will be paid and holiday entitlement will not be affected.

However, those choosing to work on 8 May will receive double time.
Asda will also be surprising 10 coronation inspired community projects across the country with funding.
“We’re proud to mark the coronation of King Charles III by supporting the ‘Big Help Out’ and enabling our colleagues to come together, celebrate and give back to their local communities,” Asda chief people and corporate affairs officer, Hayley Tatum said.
“We understand that this is an incredibly important event for many of our colleagues, and they want to get involved, which is why we’re offering them the opportunity to take a day off to support their local area, without needing to use their holiday entitlement.”
Tatum added: “We are also saying thank you to those colleagues who do choose to work on Monday 8 May by offering them a double time payment as a thank you for their continued efforts to serve our customers over the bank holiday weekend.”
