Sainsbury’s launches Nectar Prices to compete with Tesco Clubcard price

Sainsbury’s is introducing a new loyalty initiative, Nectar Prices as it looks to compete with leading retailer Tesco’s Clubcard scheme.

In a bid to keep prices low, the Big 4 grocer’s customers will now receive discounts on over 300 items initially, spanning across household products, pet food and confectionary.

The savings, which will be applied when a shopper uses the Nectar app or card at the checkout, will expand across more categories throughout the year.

Selected items will be available at half price, such as 24x330ml cans of Coke Zero, which can be purchased for £5 instead of its original price of £10.

Ariel All-in-1 pods, Nescafe Gold Blend coffee and certain Orab-B Pro products can also be found with savings of over half price with Sainsbury’s new Nectar Prices.

Each week, shoppers can also find personalised lower prices with up to 30% off products specifcally tailored to them, and will still be able to collect Nectar points with over 350 retailers including eBay, Esso and Argos.

For customers shopping online, the savings will be applied automatically if their Nectar and Sainsbury’s accounts are linked and those without a Nectar card can also access the new prices by downloading the Nectar app.

“We are delighted to launch Nectar Prices, which will help millions of our customers save more on every trip to Sainsbury’s,” chief executive officer, Simon Roberts said.

“There is much more to look forward to, we will keep refreshing Nectar Prices and increasing the variety of products on offer. It gets better, Nectar customers who shop in store with SmartShop will receive extra personalised value with Your Nectar Prices, bringing them the best prices on their favourite products.

“Our customers really are at the heart of every decision we make and we hope they find that Nectar Prices is an exciting way to bring them consistently great value all year round.”
