Getir reaches milestone with one million charity meal donations

Getir has reached a milestone, having donated over one million meals from its gstores to local charities via giving platform, Neighbourly.

This comes as the second achievement for the partnership as it reached 500,000 meal donations in November 2022.

Since the initiative first began last April, 422 tonnes of food have been given away by the rapid grocery delivery company and 1,520 tonnes of Co2 have been saved, with an overall financial impact of over £1.8 million.

The charity partnership looks to help UK households struggling amid the cost-of-living crisis, with one in seven people having skipped a meal, according to a recent report by The Bank of England.

“In light of the ongoing challenges families face with the rising cost of living, we are more committed than ever to providing assistance to those in need,” Getir UK general manager, Chris Chaaya said.

“We’re proud to have reached this incredible milestone, and we will continue working with Neighbourly and local communities to show our dedication to supporting them. As a company, we strive to be active and valuable in the areas we serve.”

Neighbourly CEO, Steve Butterworth added that the platform’s community survey highlights that charities are facing “growing demand and increasing pressure.”

“This scheme is providing much-needed support for these hard-working organisations and the families they support.”
