Squeaky Bean to roll out plant-based cooking chorizo in Waitrose

Vegan brand Squeaky Bean is set to launch its new plant-based cooking chorizo across Waitrose stores.

A first for the brand, the new product has been designed specifically to be used when cooking.

Launching at the supermarket giant from 28 December at RRP £3.50, the chorizo consits of pea protein and broad beans, seasoned with chilli, garlic and smoked paprika.

Despite being plant-based, the product is slow dry cured like its meat alternative which according to Squeaky Bean, helps it to imitate the taste and texture of chorizo.

“With an ever-increasing number of people looking to reduce their meat consumption, we are excited to be able to use our expertise to create a truly innovative recipe that will be a fantastic addition to the chilled plant-based aisle,” Squeaky Bean brand manager Rebecca Youseman told The Grocer.

She added that the brand looks to use “the latest product innovation to create recipes that are even better than their meat counterparts”.

This comes as Waitrose has seen orders for vegan and vegetarian lines increase by 49% in comparison to last year.

As a result, the upmarket retailer has added more vegan products than ever to its festive range to enable customers to have a full vegan Christmas dinner.
