A limited run of Nestlé’s Quality Street products are set to be wrapped in different colours due to a shortage of foil.
The temporary change is set to affect the hazelnut noisette triangle which is usually wrapped in green, and will now found in a short supply of tubs, pouches and cartons in a gold wrapper, while the octagonal orange crunch will be in a dark bronze foil.
Produced at Nestlé’s Halifax factory last week, stocks of green and orange foil didn’t cover the planned production run, however the FMCG giant has said this has now returned to normal.
While these items might be found with slightly different wrapping, the chocolates themselves which are rolling out across retailers in the UK and Ireland in the next few weeks, will remain unchanged.

“I promise this isn’t a publicity stunt. We’ve not added full size chocolate bars to the tin or removed the coconut flavour from a handful of tubs,” Quality Street senior brand manager, Jemma Handley said.
“We simply didn’t have enough of the right coloured foil to cover the production run of the two sweets in question and, rather than leave them out of the selection altogether, we decided to use different colours for a very limited period.
“We are fairly sure this is the first time this has happened so anybody who finds a green triangle or an orange crunch in a different coloured foil will have something of rarity on their hands. I am pleased to say that it’s the same delicious hazelnut and orange sweets inside the wrappers, regardless of their colour.”
This comes as Quality Street announced last month that it would be axing its bright plastic wrapping on its chocolate after 86 years to make them more environmentally friendly in time for Christmas.
The change to the foil wrapping will stop nearly two billion wrappers ending up in landfill a year.
