Iceland launches Christmas campaign with Noddy Holder

Frozen food retailer Iceland has launched its Christmas campaign featuring Noddy Holder teasing its 2022 Christmas campaign.

The campaign begins with a live steam, showing Holder, Slade guitarist and the voice of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ and its iconic line ‘It’s Christmaaaaas’ bored in an empty room.

On hold, until the World Cup is done at least, Iceland will be using the period to promote the store’s party food product range.

The five second teaser ends with ‘#NotYetNoddy’, poking fun at other retailers who have launched their Christmas campaigns early.

“It is important we spread joy where we can, as such the unique combination of a football Word Cup at Christmas provides the perfect opportunity for some festive cheer,” Iceland head of design Joseph Gummett said.

“As a nation we all know “It’s Christmas!” when we hear those famous lyrics from the unofficial bastion of Christmas, Slade frontman Noddy Holder. But this year, as we edge ever closer to the big day, the football keeps getting in his way. But that is no bad thing and being the good sport he is, Noddy awaits his moment with characteristic charm, patience and great humour.

“At Iceland & The Food Warehouse we are famous for our great quality and incredible value. Working with partners Meanwhile and Chief, we have celebrated this in a campaign in which we showcase our hallmarks of amazing products, low prices and playful humour.”

Just today, Aldi unveiled its 2022 Christmas advert, following days of teasers, alongside Waitrose’s parent company John Lewis, which also launched its highly-anticipated Christmas advert which is aiming to raise awareness of children in care.

The 90 second advert, titled ‘The Beginner’, was spearheaded by creative agency adam&eveDDB with input from partner charities Action for Children and Who Cares? Scotland. Specialist advisors were also used throughout the production process.

As a result, the founder behind the marketing company, Meanwhile, which created Iceland’s upcoming advert posted on social media saying: “Chill out John Lewis. It’s only November, and the first Meanwhile Christmas campaign for Iceland Foods is coming soon. #NotYetNoddy”
