Morrisons appoints James Badger as new commercial and manufacturing director

Morrisons has appointed James Badger as its group commercial and manufacturing director, a promotion from his current position as online and wholesale director.

Badger, who has served in this role since July and been employed with the grocery retailer for over nine years in roles including group finance controller and finance director, is set to take on his new appointment from 10 October.

As group commercial and manufacturing director, he will be responsible for the commercial division and the company’s 19 manufacturing operations, as well as continuing to have responsibility for Morrisons online, convenience and wholesale channels.

“I’m very much looking forward to taking on my new responsibilities at such an important moment for our customers as the cost of living crisis continues,” Badger told The Grocer.

“As a food-maker and shopkeeper we have a unique position within the British grocery market with opportunities to drive value for money and to support customers during a difficult period.”

Morrisons CEO David Potts added: “James has shown himself to be a highly capable leader with a record of building great teams and delivering strong growth.

“I’m delighted to welcome him to his new role and I’m confident that he will continue to make a very strong contribution to the success of the business.”

This comes as Morrisons chief operating officer Trevor Strain stepped down last week, having served in the role for three years and been at the supermarket giant since 2009.
