The International Dairy Federation (IDF) has launched its annual World Dairy Situation Report, providing data and analysis of several sectors across the dairy chain.

The 13th edition of the report which was launched at the IDF World Dairy Summit in New Delhi, India looked into the global production, processing, trade, prices and consumption of milk and dairy products within the last year.

Presented to world dairy leaders, experts, businessmen and journalists today, 12 September, the report found that Covid-19 disruption, “only had a limited impact on the global dairy sector”, according to its summary authors.

IDF director general, Caroline Emond and IDF chair of standing committee on dairy policies and economics, Kirsten Holm Svendsen said in the foreword: “Regardless of how hard the difficulties and challenges were during the past years, the global dairy sector never lost its ability to anticipate and adapt to changes”.

The report found that both milk production and consumption increased throughout 2021.

Global milk production for all species grew by 2.1%, while the share of world trade in global milk production continues to sit at 10% and global per capita consumption increased by 1.4% to 118.2kg in milk equivalents.

Emond and Holm Svendsen added: “Milk is not only the main source of high-quality nutrients for all ages (particularly for children and ageing populations) but also a socio-economic activity that ensures a living to millions of families and communities in all regions of the globe.

“This World Dairy Situation Report is condensation in data and figures of all the activity that is taking place worldwide as you read these lines. Prepared by dairy experts from around the world, the report is a well-trusted source for dairy enthusiasts.”

This news follows a bulletin on eco-friendly and energy-saving dairy technologies published on IDF’s corporate website in June, which its guidelines hope to assist sustainability managers and leaders in improving energy management across the dairy supply chain.
