Asda donates £50k to Bowel Cancer UK and adds symptoms to toilet roll packaging

Following on from Aldi and Waitrose, Asda has become the most latest retailer to join Bowel Cancer UK’s ‘#GetOnARoll’ campaign.

Aiming to inform the UK public on the symptoms of the second biggest cancer killer, Asda will be adding signs of bowel cancer to its Shades and Just Essentials toilet roll packaging.

The Big 4 grocer will also be donating £50,000 to the charity, helping to fund future initiatives and save lives.

These changes to Asda’s toilet roll packaging are set to take place from early Autumn and will include a QR code for customers to find out more information which could be potentially lifesaving.

Knowing the symptoms of bowel cancer and having it diagnosed at its earliest stage is when its easiest to treat. However, as fewer than 40% of people are diagnosed at the earliest stages, ‘#GetOnARoll’ aims to add symptoms to toilet roll packaging where people need to see it most.

“We’re delighted to announce that we are joining the #GetOnARoll campaign, supporting with on pack awareness on our popular own brand toilet roll ranges. We are also making a £50,000 donation to the charity to help fund future initiatives,” Household buying manager Sarah Yorke said.

“Spotting signs early is so important, so anything we can do to raise awareness of what people should look out for, and signpost them to Bowel Cancer UK to find out more, is crucial.”

Bowel Cancer UK CEO Genevieve Edwards added: “It’s wonderful that Asda has joined our #GetOnARoll campaign to help raise vital awareness of bowel cancer symptoms.”

“Part of the problem is low awareness of the red flag symptoms of bowel cancer that should prompt people to contact their GP.”

“This brilliant partnership with Asda will help millions of people across the UK know the signs to look out for and will undoubtedly save lives from bowel cancer in the future.”
