Morrisons Andy Atikinson resigns as commercial director role scrapped

Morrisons group commercial director Andy Atkinson is set to leave the Big 4 grocer, as it scraps the position.

As a result, the retailers chief operating officer Trevor Strain, who has previously held Atkinson’s role, will now take control of Morrisons commercial team.

Atkinson has worked at the supermarket giant for over 10 years, and previously held the roles of trading director, own-brand and sourcing director, and group marketing and customer director.

According to The Grocer, the changes came with with a note from the CEO of Morrisons, David Potts, explaining that he had reviewed the business to make it more competitive amid the cost-of-living crisis.

However, it is understood Morrisons offered Atkinson other positions but declined.

The news comes as Morrisons is set to become the highest paying UK supermarket for store staff after announcing a new hourly wage deal.

The Big 4 grocer has announced it will pay its store and manufacturing staff a minimum of £10.20 an hour, a minimum 2% increase on their base rate.
