Hellmann’s gravy mayonnaise sparks debate

In a bid to tackle the ‘gravy vs mayonnaise’ debate for best chips dipping sauce, Hellmann’s launched its new Gravy Mayonnaise.

However, less than 24 hours since the announcement the new sauce has already caused divided opinions on social media.

Rachel Hawkins said: “I can’t work out if gravy flavoured mayonnaise is an absolute stroke of genius or the worst thing I’ve ever heard of.”

A few users noticed the similarities it had to sauces sold at KFC.

The new condiment forms part of a new trio of flavoured mayonnaises from the company inspired by ‘Britain’s best-loved restaurant sauces’, which includes Coronation, chill charger and gravy.

The trio – Gravy Mayonnaise, Coronation mayonnaise and Chilli Charger Mayonnaise – will roll initially into Iceland and Morrisons stores next month for £2.25.

“We know just how much Brits love a takeaway and with the fakeaway style of cooking booming during lockdown, we wanted to provide the nation with restaurant-inspired flavours they could enjoy at home,” Hellmann’s marketing manager Rachel Chambers said.

“We’re incredibly excited to announce our market-first Gravy Mayo and hope all three, delicious new flavours will bring a bold new twist to dishes served at Jubilee parties and BBQs nationwide this summer.”

All bottles are made with 100% fully recycled plastic and are fully recyclable.
