Tea giant Typhoo has appointed former Clipper Teas CEO, Mike Brehme, as its new chairman.
Brehme joins Typhoo Tea, following a business restructure, which saw London-based private equity firm Zetland Capital, become a majority and Abercross expand its shareholding in last year.
“We have a renewed focus on our brands at Typhoo Tea. Mike’s experience of creating and nurturing an incredibly successful international brand, without forgetting the importance of people and the planet, will be invaluable to our plans,” Typhoo Tea CEO Des Kingsley said.

He also led Clipper Teas to become the UK’s first Fairtrade tea company, alongside one of largest producers of Fairtrade tea globally.
Commenting on his appointment Brehme said he is “delighted and excited to be joining one of Britain’s best loved tea brands”
He said: “As a nation we are now drinking a much wider range of teas and infusions.
“The expertise and passion within Typhoo Tea for its brands like Typhoo and Heath & Heather infusions will soon be transforming the market and adding an OO’ to every brew, whatever your taste.”
The news comes as last year, Typhoo almost halved losses in the year to March 2020.
Despite a “challenging” time where sales dipped 2.7 per cent to £53.1 million, pre-tax losses were cut from nearly £30 million to £15.9 million.
