Asda’s George hires Karl Doyle as vice president

Karl Doyle, former executive group commercial director at Reiss, has been appointed vice president of Asda’s clothing and home brand George, according to Drapers.

Doyle, who moved to Asda earlier this month, brings with him over 30 years of experience working at a senior level in a variety of roles with some of the UK’s largest retailers. He has also worked as an ambassador for The Retail Trust.

Most recently, Doyle was executive group commercial director at Reiss, a position which he held between 2017 and October 2021. Prior to this he was executive group product director at Mothercare for three year, having held the same role at the Very Group. He also spend eight years as trading director at  Marks & Spencer and was head of merchandising at Next.

Last September, Liz Evans was named as George’s new managing director. She officially joined in January 2022,  over moving from family lifestyle brand Fat Face, where she had been leading the business as CEO for the last three years. Evans also previously held the position of CEO at Oasis, Warehouse and Coast.

Lord Stuart Rose was appointed to Asda’s board of directors as chairman in December 2021. Rose possesses a wealth of retail and business experience, having been a chair, board director and chief executive of many of the UK’s biggest retailers, including Marks & Spencer.

The supermarket also announced a raft of senior appointments at the start of the year, with Nisa‘s chief executive Ken Towle joining as retail director. Tesco’s Kris Comerford was named Asda’s new chief commercial officer, while ecommerce lead Simon Gregg joined the executive leadership team following Asda’s online growth.
