Central England Co-op has announced its Thrapston store is being revamped with a “brand new look” and new sustainable and technological features.
The store is set to relaunch on 4 March with eco-features such as a zero-waste refill station in partnership with Co-op Suma Wholefoods.
The station will offer products including oats, porridge, rice, and dried fruit in a bid to cut down on plastic packaging waste.

Additionally, the environmental features extend to its refrigerating and lighting system, a recycling station and free water refills.
The Oudle road store will also include self-checkout tills, a resurfaced car park with wider parking spaces and a free bicycle repair station and seating for the local community.
The announcement comes after almost £500,000 was invested in Central England Co-op in Northampton last year with renovations made in Kettering, Desborough and Moulton.
The Thrapston store is the first of many major investments to be made in the retailer’s larger stores, as the Co-op pushes for more modern and sustainable branches.
“We are delighted to have seen our store chosen for such a significant transformation which will make a huge difference to the shopping experience for our customers and members and create a store fit for the future we can all be proud of,” Oundle road store manager Paul Carvell said.
“We are really excited about the new features which are being added to the store, as well as some fantastic new ranges which I’m sure will be really popular with our shoppers.”
Carvell added: “Unfortunately, there has had to be some disruption taking place due to the scale of the works including a short closure and I would like to thank our wonderful community in Thrapston for their patience. I’m sure once they see the result of the transformation, they will agree with us that it will have all been worth it.”
